DFW Trip (Day 1--RANGERS!!!)

Monday, June 6th, we took separate cars because I had a meeting in Greenwood that morning, so the kids and Jay got a head start on me. And, I'm not gonna lie: while I do enjoy having Jay to keep me company, jamming with Spotify on full blast volume (Ellie Goulding Delirium and then I turned back the clock with a little Ace of Base The Sign for the 90's WIN!) wasn't the worst way to spend a few hours alone ;) Because I'm not an introvert or anything......lol.

PIT STOP
(Cisco, TX)

The drive was routine, thank goodness, but oh my GOSH everything was so much greener than I'd seen it in years.

And I swear I have never seen this part of the river so high!

BRAZOS RIVER

Those Are Trees!!! Water level is almost up to the bridge! WHAT?!

MY FAVORITE SKYLINE FROM AFAR
(aka The Moment I Truly Feel Back Home)

We arrived in Addison around 2pm at possibly the nicest hotel we have ever stayed in as a family. It was amazing and anyone who has the opportunity to stay at a Hyatt House, I TOTALLY RECOMMEND IT! It was our home for five days and it was literally the size of a one bedroom apartment with full kitchen, living room, bath, and HUGE walk-in closet! Not only that, but if you aren't staying on a weekend, it is extremely affordable (less than $120/night and sleeps 5 comfortably).

Anyways, we unloaded and had an hour or so to get ready and head out to grab a bite to eat in Arlington and then do what we love to do most as a family: TEXAS RANGERS' GAME!!!!!!!!

We ate a late lunch right next door to the Ballpark, at one of our favorite Tex-Mex restaurants, Pappasito's. The food was delicious, as usual, and the kids were dying to go outside and make a wish in the fountain area out front.

UM, SISTER'S COIN DID NOT GO IN THE WATER
(We had to go get change because she was devastated that her wish wasn't going to come true. SMH)

Then, we headed over to the Ballpark.

We played Houston that night and, as usual for when we go to a game with the kids, we knew the probability of actually getting to watch the game for very long or paying attention to whether we won or lost or how many innings we would be staying. There's 3 things the kids care about when we go to the games: Kids' Zone, Food, and seeing the mascot, Captain.

As soon as we got in we headed across the stadium to pass the time before the game started in their favorite area. On the way, we took a photo

and Landri saw Captain driving around the concourse in a golf cart, and I promised her we would find a way for her to see him up close and give him a hug (because she insists on proving she is a big girl now who is no longer scared of mascots LOL....long story). I had no clue how in the world I was going to come thru with my end of the deal, but I was gonna find a way.

COTTON CANDY CRAZY

WHEN WE TOLD HER WE ARE GOING TO OUR SEATS
(aka Leaving the Kids' Zone)

We walked all the way across the entire stadium to our seats in the upper deck (literally facing the Kids' Zone area....so completely across the park) and watched the bottom of the first inning and top of the second, then decided to go ahead and get our food and drinks that came with the family ticket package we purchased. We got in the concession line nearest our seats, and waited in line. And waited. An inning went by. Landri didn't want to stand anymore. We waited some more. Another half inning went by. And it wasn't like the lines were long. No, there were about fifteen customers total at that particular stand with 3 lines going. They were just HORRIBLE at serving the customers and working the machines. We had never had a worse experience with concessions at a Rangers' game. It was a Monday night, not a sold out game, and there were no specials on any item. It shouldn't have been like this.

It was hot and muggy and sweat was literally dripping off of us when, finally, 30 minutes had passed and we get to the front to give him our our order. We asked for hot dogs. They were out of hot dogs. We asked for nachos. They were out of nachos. We asked for a pretzel. Guess what? Yup, out of them. IN THE TOP OF THE FOURTH INNING. The only food they had at that point was pickles, fries (no toppings), and burgers (without cheese).

We left with nothing but tears and frustrations, and were trying to figure out what to do when we heard the announcement that Captain would be signing autographs at the Kids' Zone after the 5th inning. Praise the Lord, OUR NIGHT WAS SAVED!!!!

We walked all the way back across the park, giving up on the idea of watching another second of the game from our seats, waited for a table in the center field food court area next to the Kids' Zone, finally got one, and we ate our snacks and drinks and waited for the end of the fifth.

It all worked out great and the kids were in Heaven when they got to meet Captain and get his autograph!

BIG HUGS!

GETTING HIS AUTOGRAPHED CARD & HAT SIGNED

Then we let them play in the Kids' Zone some more while we watched the game on the TV (lol) and left a couple of innings later.

We did manage to see the Rangers' win....from our hotel room an hour later :p
